It's Sunday today & I thought it was a lovely day for looking through some of the churches in Helsinki. Around 67% of Finns identify as Evangelical Lutherans - bit of a change from Catholic Italy. But, I was assured today from a lovely tourist agent that many Finns don't go to church, it's mostly the older ones that do.
After all, we are in Finland - the land of nudist sauna parties & skinny dipping in ice & all that.
But I did, nevertheless, visit 3 of the churches:
* The Upenski Cathedral - with its noticeably Russian influence - with green tops & Russian Baubles on top
* Helsinki Cathedral - designed by Carl Engel - the big white church
* Temppeliaukio Church - hewn out of the granite bedrock with a celing crafted from copper.
